So last night I was invited to a birthday party for one of my dear canasta friends at Cafe L'Europe in Palm Beach.  What a lovely dinner we had.  I had a martini too.  I worked hard in the pool and saved my calories and did fine at dinner.  

Today I don't need any groceries because I leave Monday but I'll still go with the duck for his.  I like to walk around and look at stuff plus I need to return some batteries that are the wrong ones.

Can you believe this is the last day of June already?  My gosh the months fly by.  I know I say that all the time but still, it's so true.

So sorry, but that's all I have in my brain for today.  Hope your Sunday is totally tits.  Mine will be for sure...

Yikes!  It was beautiful all day and then about 6:00 this came crashing in.  We do need rain but this is a bit scary.  I went to the pool early and there were three of us there, we got to talking and I did an hour before I knew it.  It goes by so fast when there is someone else doing it too.

I'm all packed and ready to go on Monday.  The only think I'm not sure of is whether I am checking a bag or taking it with me.  It's small and not heavy, I really packed light, so it wouldn't be a problem for me but do I want to fool with it?  And the check bag fee is $25.00 which isn't really a problem but I sure could roll it myself for that and have the money to shop, right?  Anyway we'll see.  I don't have to decide yet.

I'm getting excited about the trip now.  It's really a big step for me to go somewhere by myself.  I know most people do it all the time but I never have.  Yet.  Until now.

So okay in case you are not facebook friend with the duck here is what happened at the docs yesterday:

Ok, good news and bad news from the doctor. Tendon in the knee is only sprained and not torn, so no surgery.......at this time.
We then had this conversation: 

Doc: Have you ever abuse steroids in your life?
Me: Ummmmmmmmmmmmm no, do I look like a body builder?
Doc: Well that means you're an alcoholic.
Me: That is a bold statement, what makes you say that?
Doc: Because your knee says you are.
Me: Well I am, been sober for four and a half years.
Doc: Congratulations, but you also have long term damage to your bones from it.
Me: Among other things I would say.
Doc: You have Aseptic Necrosis.
Me: Sounds like some kind of VD.
Doc: I'm not that kind of doctor. 

He went on to tell me that I can lose the crutches but keep the knee brace and come back in 6 months for a VD check up, I think I like this guy.

So, good and bad news as he said.  I want to hear what Dr. Wacks has to say about it too.  He also has to do physical therapy for the six months.

And that's about all I know about that.  For now.

Today I shall swim and start packing, ready to leave on Monday.  We had lots of storms yesterday, hope today doesn't bring more of them.  I was in the ladies card room during all the storms yesterday and when I was ready to leave the sun came out for my walk home.  How lovely.  Have a great day!  I will too.

Today the duck goes for his MRI on his knee.  I am not going because I have canasta but someone is taking him.  Also he can drive as it is his left knee.  He's walking pretty good, not great.  So when he sees the doc I'll let you know what's happening.

Yesterday I went and got in the pool late after cards.  I was all by myself again, tits to that!  It was warm and lovely and I worked very hard.

And so Big Brother is back on.  I'm watching, who else?  I love when it's on because that's three evenings a week with something to do.  I hope it's a good season.

Roche' wanted to go shopping with me but I explained that I had to go play cards and he wasn't allowed in the ladies card room.  He says he'll wear a dress if I'll take him. I swear sometimes talking to that boy is like talking to a rock.  Oh, wait.  Never mind.

My Canadian friend (well one of my Canadian friends) sent me a lovely card with this bee pin enclosed.  Love it!  Thanks Paul!  I shall wear it proudly!  The card was adorable too.  (Paul:  old what's-his-name would love it!)

So I went to the pool earlier yesterday and nobody else was there.  I took this photo myself.  I hope I don't get any tanner.  I had on lots of sunscreen but I just seem to tan right through it.  I don't want that leather-y looking skin.

Last night I lost 14 dollars at poker but I didn't play canasta so I'm even.

The duck is having an MRI on Thursday.  His knee is a bit better but not enough to not check it out better.  Hope it's not too much of a problem.  

I got out my suitcase yesterday and started packing.  I am trying to go with only a carry-on and purse.  It'll be hard but I think I can do it.  If not, well, I'll just check a bag.

I'd call this "Moon over Miami" except that it's Moon over West Palm Beach instead.  Everyone seemed to get such great moon shots but mine is kind of crappy but it sure was pretty.  I took this from my bedroom terrace.

Tonight is poker.  After last week's big win I kind of think I might not do it again but I hope I do.

I finally found out about those 3volt lithium batteries for the scale, my car clicker, etc. you know those little flat round ones?  Yeah, those.  Well they all look the same but the numbers are different on them.  Well the number is the thickness, not the strength or the diameter.  For example I bought 2016 yesterday and they didn't work.  I couldn't understand why, they looked exactly the same.  Well I needed 2032 size, the ones I bought are too thin to make a good contact.

Yesterday there were three others at the pool and here I though I'd have it all to myself.  One young gal but she is visiting and will be gone next week and the Mayor and the Governor of the pool were there.  I took this without them knowing I did:

The (self declared) Mayor (of the pool) is the furthest away and the (again, self declared) Governor (of the pool) is the closest one.  Oh, and for the record I am the (self declared) Empress of the entire building and the pool.  Well, and the parking lot too but I don't really care about that too much.

If any of you want to tell them enough tan is enough please be my guest.  I wouldn't dare.  I'm pretty tan too but honestly I do NOT sit in the sun.  I am in it while I am in the pool and that's all.  I just tan really easily.

I am having a houseguest in August and she is going to the pool with me every day.  She can entertain these two.  Okay, I know you want to know who it is, it's Barb!

I think facebook is reading my blog.  As soon as I posted about fish oil yesterday my facebook page had a huge ad for fish oil.  Scary how everything interacts like that.  Or maybe the facebook people are just taking fish oil, what do you think?

This time next week I'll be visiting Podunk!  It has been a really long time since I have been there.  Sarge SO loved it there.  Well, I did too actually but we just couldn't keep up with two homes any more.  I do think if you can possibly buy a vacation home and be able to use it for years and then sell it when you are done it's a great investment.  Especially if you ever wanted to rent it out when you weren't using it.  It's like money in the bank.

So okay this is an actual conversation I had in Publix yesterday.  If you don't like my strange sense of humor please skip over this cause it's a doosey:

Checker:  Is this your brother (looking at the duck).

Me:  No, he's my son.

C;  Oh, is your husband at home waiting for you?

M:  No, I buried him.

C:  Oh, I am so sorry to hear this!

M:  That's okay, I had to, he was dead.

Lady behind me in line:  Cracks up and doubles over laughing!

C: ?

Trust me, Sarge would have loved it.  

So it's Monday again.  That means all those weekenders at the pool won't be there.  Yay.  It's much nicer with just me or just me and the mayor and the governor (of the pool).  (I am the Empress of the whole building, I know because I called it.)

I am ramping up the exercise and cutting back the calories to see if I can do something to start my weight loss again.  It's been a long time since I have lost any.  I have not gained though so that's good.  Now we'll have to see if this works.

Yesterday there were quite a few people at (and in) the pool but I still got my hour done and had fun to spare too.  Today I am going to pick up the duck and take him to lunch and spend an hour or so with him and see how he is doing with the knee.  He won't be able to walk in the WalMart so I shall do that by myself.

I was thinking... I know, I shouldn't do that but the fish oil kicked in pretty good and my brain started whirling.  Some nights I sleep 5 hours and I'm totally done.  Then other days I sleep 10 hours and seem to need this much sleep.  I wonder why that is.  I mean "is y'all".  I'd hate to end a sentence with a preposition or anything.  Anyway back to the sleep, I have no idea why and wonder if any of y'all ever have this happen.

Next I was wondering how math works.  I mean I know it DOES work but how?  Who was smart enough to figure all that out and they probably didn't even have fish oil either.  Now that's some smart ones right there.

Do you think some day they will discover lettuce was fattening all along?  And ice cream wasn't?

Isn't the human body amazing?  I mean if you cut your finger a few days later it has healed itself.  Stuff like that.  I think our diet plays a good part in allowing the body to function at peak efficiency too.  

Isn't air conditioning a lovely invention?  I remember as a child sleeping with the windows open and some nights in the summer there wasn't even a slight breeze.  It was hard to sleep when you were hot and sweaty.  But gosh didn't those sheets smell good when they were fresh off the line from hanging in the sun?  They were white and crisp and smelled so good!

And phone numbers had words and numbers, not just numbers.  Mine was Atwater 4123.  Gosh I wonder how I can remember that?

I guess I'll stop before I bore y'all to death here.  I'll just think stuff to myself now.  Have a perfectly lovely Sunday.  I will too...

So yesterday after I got home from getting my hair done I ran down to get in the pool.  Remember my little 8 year old friend Michael?  Well he was there and we raced back and forth across the pool for 50 laps.  As hard as we could push.  Then I finished off the hour with regular water jogging.  Great workout, really great.

The duck said his knee was "about the same".  I think that is expected though, the doctor said it should feel better by Monday if it's going to so it's too soon now.

So the weekend is upon us and I have no plans other than the normal stuff.  I might just sleep late! Ha!  Have a great one, I will too!

Well I don't know if you will believe this or not but this is my first time ever pumping gas.  Yup, never did it before.  It wasn't even very hard!  I just thought it would be!  This is my fourth tank of gas since Sarge died 17 months ago.  Imagine that, four tanks of gas.  

Today I am getting my hair done.  Can you tell I need it?

So the duck's knee update:  First we went to Dr. Wacks who examined him and made us an appointment with an ortho guy so we went there next.  He took some fluid out with a needle and then gave him a shot in the knee and another kind of brace.  If it's not better by Monday he'll need an MRI but hopefully that will do the trick.  

Today is the summer solstice.  In Riga, Latvia, it has become a recent ritual of great popularity for the summer solstice celebrations to go out and run around naked. If this is your idea of fun, go for it.  I can't imagine I'll be doing it but then you never know!

Well the duck hurt his knee yesterday.  Of course I read about it on facebook.  Anyway I'm taking him to the doctor this morning.  If I get done in time I have canasta this afternoon but if not I have someone to make a game for them.  He can't drive with it right now.

Yesterday I didn't get into the pool until 4:30 and it was so warm, no one around, no direct sun, perfect.  I love the longer daylight now in the evenings so much.  I think tomorrow is actually the longest daylight day of the year.  Did that make sense, not sure, don't think so but you know what I mean.  I'm tired (you know I write this the night before, right?) and not thinking clearly.  I got up at 4:30 and had quite a long (but very fun) day.

I swear I never get tired of my view.  Talk about sky-blue-pink!  It was really really warm yesterday so I went to the pool early and was done by 10:00.  Much better than noontime like I usually do.  

And then last night the poker gods were on my side for sure.  Hope canasta goes good for me today too.  I am enjoying the new Wednesday game now.

In last night's canasta game I won a dollar.  It was a nice night out too.  I feel so liberated going out at night and not being afraid.  Things are moving forward I think.

Today I shall swim, hopefully as much as I did yesterday.  It is pretty hot now and the pool is sheer heaven.  If it wasn't for too much sun I'd stay there all day I think.

People keep asking me when my next cruise is but I don't have one booked now.  Just the trip to Podunk next month, that's all.

So I did meet Sandy and Dick and some of their friends at John G's yesterday.  Dick took this photo.  I think I look like I'm about to say a bad word but I wasn't.  And I told you I was tan didn't I?  And just pretend you can't see that inch of roots, I go on Friday.

And I don't know how many of you know this area but the old Palm Beach Mall has been torn down and this is the progress on the new outlet mall being built.  This is right outside my complex.

Then I went to the Fern House for a gospel concert that was very nice and I took this photo when I got home on my way in from the car.

Look who got himself sunburned because he wouldn't listen to me and get in the shade. Now he's whining about how much it hurts.  I rubbed some baby oil on him and that shut him up though.  What a pistol that one is!  He sure rules the roost around here.  

I also was beading again yesterday.  I'll show you soon what I did, love it actually.  I got beads from a friend, she has fabulous beads.  I just like looking and touching them.  Guess I'm weird but like I said yesterday, I'm not nuts, my mother had me tested. (smile, again)

I might be going to John G's today, depends on what time Sandy is going to be there.  She's here for the weekend and I'd love to see her but if not I'll be in Podunk in two weeks and see her then.  That will be my first trip without Sarge.  It'll sure seem strange but I want to do it.  I have done lots of things on my own lately, getting out there a bit finally.

Seriously are you watching Magic City?  Tonight is the start of season three.  And last night Burn Notice came back on.  Love those shows.  Evenings are hard for me sometimes and the tv is what helps me get through those times so I am so happy I have shows on now that I love.

I had a great day yesterday.  I got in a canasta game with some great gals and had a blast and oh, by the way, I won $9.80!  We had a lovely lunch too.  I am really going to love this game I think.

Roche' saw some cat blogs and decided he wanted a blog of his own.  Since I am not willing to do it for him and he has no fingers with which to type it's not going to happen.  I might, however, let him guest post here occasionally.  We'll see.  He has already started planning his first post.  Sigh... that boy is a handfull!

So yesterday was a quiet day, I lost four dollars at poker and didn't play canasta so I'm even and I swam for a long time.  It's officially summer now and it's wonderful.  I love Florida in the summer.  

Today I am playing in a new game, we'll see how it goes.  We are having lunch first so that will be nice.

Soon I am going to have to get my hair done.  Another week or two I think.  I guess I should wait two weeks as then it will be good for when I go away in July.

And, boring as it is, that's all I know today y'all.  Hope your Wednesday is wonderful, mine will be for sure!

Here's the duck for your viewing enjoyment.  That is a genuine smile and it does my heart so good to see it.  And that pretty pink shirt was one of Sarge's.  He loved pink shirts, always did.  The duck is a chip off the old block and there is no doubting it.

There is no canasta game today as several gals are out.  That means poker only today. Oh and of course the pool.  It is warm and clean and lovely, my favorite part of the day.

I'm going to make fish tacos tonight if my avocado is ripe enough, if not, I'll just steam the fish in the oven with lemon slices and make a salad.  I have tilapia, cod, and salmon, now it's time to decide which one.  I love them in the freezer in those individual packs, so easy and delicious.

Roche' gets his way!

And oh you knew he would didn't you?  The people at the WalMart were very nice and gave me all the stuff I didn't get.  They just told me to go get it and bring it to the front and they put it in a bag for me.  Very nice.

Then I came home and we got to work.  First he said he wanted eyes so he could see how good he looked, then he wanted rhinestones which I gave in and glued them to him and finally he wanted a sparkly thong for the pool.  He got it all.  He's a very happy boy.  He said to tell you he's hawt!  I burned my finger but he said it didn't hurt him at all.

Today I go to the (girl) doctor.  Yech.  But it needs done and so it shall be.  Then I'll be at the pool.  Hope your Monday is grand...

It was so rainy again yesterday that I got my shower and put on my jammies at noon and then all of the sudden at about 2:00 the sun came out, well I got my suit on so fast and hightailed it down to the pool where I was the only one.  It was very full, almost to the top but still fun.  

Today I'll get to go to the WalMart!  Yay!  (kidding!)  Anyway I am going to try to get them to give me the stuff I didn't get the last time I went.  I circled it on the receipt and put it in my purse.  We'll see what happens.  Roche' wants his bling.
