Saturday stuff around my part of paradise...

So let's start with my visit with Dr. Wacks.  The blood work was not just good, it was great!  The A1C was 5.2, good cholesterol high, bad cholesterol low, all levels in the normal range for everything else and weight down 5 pounds from the last visit.  It does not get any better than that my friends.  If you need to be on the bee bandwagon and are not there yet, why not?  I now have 23 more pounds to lose to be done.  It is very slow going though.  I don't want to eat less.  But soon I'll be back in the pool and it'll be easier then.

I got my hair done yesterday after the doctor.  I have it a bit different this time and I like it very much.  Just a bit smoother.  The color is really nice too.

The weekend is going to be busy and the week too.  I have activities every day and it's getting warmer.  Today I am subbing for Canasta and Monday too, then my regular games Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and a fund raiser on Sunday so no day off for me until next Friday.  I don't know how I ever had time to work!

And so my friends, here is hoping you have a fabulous Saturday.  Me too!

Friday and I'm off...

Well except for my doctor's appointment with Dr. Wacks.  I think I have lost more weight but I'll let him tell me officially.  His family is losing too!

Yesterday I was asked where to buy the purple MahJong set.  We got it online but I'm not sure where.  I googled it and found it lots of places though so you can easily find it I'm sure.  With the rolling case, racks, and tiles it was about two hundred dollars.  The soft cases are nicer than the hard ones I think.

I enjoyed Dr. Watson's speech last night.  His new book, Affairs of State is all about the affairs in the white house.  Lots of hanky pankey going on in our government starting with the first one and coming forward.  He was a very good speaker, he took lots of questions.

Hope your Friday will be as good as mine!

Party time!

This is our MahJong group, the gal sitting down, Elaine, was having her birthday and we pitched in and got her a really nice gift.

It was her 70th (we usually don't spend this much) so we wanted to give her a really memorable gift.  A purple MahJong set!  She was speechless.  What a thrill to make someone so happy!  And the cake was really nice too!

I made a really hard Maj hand too and got a dot on my card.  If you don't remember we put a dot next to the hand once we make it.  At the end of the season the one with the most dots gets their lunch bought.  So far it's pretty close. Oh, and I won three dollars and thirty cents too!

Next up was the condo's barbecue.  I got there at 5:00 and helped by making all the hamburger patties.  I don't like to touch meat but didn't mind doing it too much.  All I ate was a hot dog (no bun) and small salad.  It was a nice party but I didn't stay too long.  There was lots of drinking going on and I was having diet coke so it wasn't as fun for me.

Today is canasta but tonight I have yet another activity.  The club is having a dinner and a speaker, Dr. Robert Watson.  I think he's a lib (he teaches at Lynn University) but we have a table of eight of us ladies so I'm game for it.  Such a social schedule!  Ha ha.

So anyway that's it from paradise today.  Have a perfectly lovely Thursday.  I will too.

Yesterday I was in the card room and it was my turn to sit out so I snapped some photos.  (wink)  I lost three dollars and twenty cents too.  But then I had poker and won fifty bucks so I'm even, right?

Today is one of the MahJong gals birthdays so we are having cake!  CAKE!  Yee haw!  Cake.

Yesterday I was watching Dr. Oz after canasta and the show was about addiction.  It was a really good show.  It talked about how the brain works with substances, including alcohol which is most definitely a drug, just a legal one.  Now I am not here to tell you not to have a drink, I do myself occasionally, but it explained what happens in your brain and how you become dependent on these substances.  And why addiction is a disease like any other disease and we should treat it as such.  Anyway I enjoyed the show and hope more people understand addiction a bit better.

I remember when the duck was at his lowest point and I told him that I loved him no matter what.  I just was no longer going to try to "fix" him.  Or clean up after him, he would be responsible for anything he did.  Co-dependency is as much a disease as addiction.

Think about this too, when you give money to one of those people begging on the corner you may be the one that gives them the money that buys the drug that kills them.  Don't be responsible for them.

Okay I'll step down from the soapbox now, sorry for the rant.  It's just a subject that triggers me in a huge way.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.  I will too.  Remember I'll have some cake!

Yesterday was a much nicer day, still cool but not awful.  I was up and out early for my blood work for Friday's dr. appt. and then off to have my taxes done.  If you remember last year H&R Block tried to charge me over eight hundred dollars for a return that Sarge had almost completed before he died so I wasn't going back there for sure.  I don't know if they have this where you live but here the United Way does taxes free so I make an appointment and went there.  They are done and mailed (check included).  I could not file electronically because I had to include a death certificate with the return.

Anyway then I came home and saw an email from Sandy and we had lunch!  How nice was that for a lovely surprise?  Dick came too.  It was a very nice visit and I got to get one more box out of my closet, this time for Joy!

Today is canasta and poker.  Hope my lucky streak continues.  I like to play either way but winning is way more fun.  But today's canasta game is the one with the gal with the very bad memory and it's really hard to play with her.  Some days she is not too bad but other days?  Oy.

So that's it from my world.  Hope you have a lovely day.  It's warming up nicely here so I know I will!

Monday, March 4, 2013

Yesterday was sunny, cool, and windy.  I only went out long enough to run my errands and came home and got my jammies on.  I turned the heat on too!  And took a hot bath.  Can you tell I don't like cold?  Ha ha.

Today is still going to be cool but I have two errands to do so I'll have to be out and about some.  No cards today though.

Sorry but that's all I know.  I guess I need to up the fish oil a bit so I'm not so dumb! Have a great Monday and new week.  I sure will!

Gussied up!

This was one of my crafting projects.  I put a collar on my lion cub.  He said he likes it even if it is girly.  The pin was given to me by a dear (deceased) girl friend that died at the ripe old age of 40.  So now instead of having the pin in a drawer it's there for me to look at and remember some great times with her.

I seem to have lost my pink "bee" pin, I wore it a lot and I miss it.  I have looked online for some time to find another one but cannot.  Buggers.  The last time I remember having it was on the bloggers cruise.  I am hoping it will still turn up somewhere.

Today is grocery day and since I didn't go to the fruit stand on Friday I need to go there too.  And it's cold.  Really cold.  No swimming.

Hope your Sunday is lovely.  Mine will be I know, it always is!

I saw this a/c truck outside Thursday and thought the name was cute.  I know nothing about the company though.

Yesterday I was a total slug.  Well I did do laundry and bake muffins and did some crafting but not much else.  It was cool and dreary and I never left the apartment, I didn't even go downstairs to get the mail!  Today is a much different story though.  I am subbing in the Saturday game and having lunch with them first.

I forgot to post this last night, sorry.  I told you I was a slug! lol

Bee bandwagon banana muffins - mmmm

Feel free to leave out anything you don't like.  This is like a pina colada!

1 C self rising flour 455 calories
1/4 C sugar 75 calories
1 tablespoon oil 115 calories
1/2 C pineapple in pineapple juice 60 calories (like a small container from a 4 pack)
1 teaspoon coconut extract (or vanilla)
1/4 C walnuts chopped fine 180 calories ( I put them in the food processor)
1 egg 70 calories
1 small really (really) ripe banana so it's really sweet 75 calories

makes 8 muffins at 130 calories each

mix the egg, oil, coconut extract (or vanilla), banana, and pineapple with a fork, add sugar, nuts, and flour and stir until moist, do not beat.

bake in cupcake papers at 350 degrees for about 22 minutes or until slightly browned.

My friend, The Curmudgeon, is trying to coin a new word so I thought I'd help him out a bit.  His word is microminiholidayette.  Use it if you can.  It sort of sums up every day in my world, doesn't it?

He says:

Not sure what a "microminiholidayette" is? Well, today is National Tooth Fairy Day, National Public Sleeping Day, National Chili Day, National Chocolate Souffle Day, and National Pancake Day. Surely, any of these would qualify.

It's already a bit cooler here.  No swimming for me for a bit again.  But I am off today!  I need to make a fruit stand run already and get more veggies and fruit.  I am eating SO healthy and exercising too and not losing.  But no fear, I will soon!

Here's what happened at canasta yesterday:

Yup, that's how good my cards were.  I played good too but if you don't get good cards as well it's harder to win.

Have a wonderful Friday y'all.  I will too!
