New Year's Eve stuff...

Red Lobster 250 calorie lunch

You can eat out and stay healthy and low calorie, you just have to ask for what you want and how you want it - and I do.  It was filling and delicious.  I only had a tiny bit of the sour cream on the potato and didn't finish the whole thing.  The tilapia was cooked with spray instead of butter and the steamed broccoli had lemon on it, not salt.

I am staying in tonight and probably going to bed early although that's hard because there will be fireworks all around me at midnight.  It's chilly and windy so there won't be any swimming either, rats.

I have people above me now, they are Canadian and very nice but I have quite gotten used to it being quiet and it's not.  They don't stay long but they have children and marble floors.  The door bangers are still next door too but they are so nice I will never say a word.  They'll be gone soon too.

When I was at lunch at the club a few days ago I saw the menu for New Year's Day and I commented that there were no black eyed peas or collard greens on it.  Well no one had ever heard of eating them on New Year's.  Can you believe that?  I was stunned.  I thought everyone ate them!  Weirdos I guess.

So have a very happy New Year y'all.  Stay off the roads if you can too.  Crazy people out there!

  1. I have never heard of eating black eyed peas and collard greens on New years either. Maybe regional? I love looking at the food. I can not wait to try some of these recipes.

  3. ANother year has gone by, hard to believe!!!!

I hope you have a lovely new years eve, your plans sound similar to ours. Not much of a holiday in our book. Other than hopefully getting out of work a few hours early and having tomorrow off. Soon it will be back to the daily grind with nothing left to look forward to.
Sigh, winter blues... here they come! :(

  4. You'd think down south there, they would have heard of Black Eyed peas and Collard Greens, wouldn't ya? It is regional though--we don't do that up here--unless y'all are a southern transplant. I think Creole are into that in a big way?

  6. We don't eat collards on New Years... or evah. Although we eat black eyes peas all the time. I even make a stew with them. Yum.

Hope the fireworks aren't bad. I sleep right through them. :)

Happy New Year, my friend. big hugs xoxo

  7. I have always eaten black eyed peas ( for pennies) and some kind of greens (for greenbacks) on New Year's Day! I actually prefer my greens as a salad but since our BSP chapter has a party on Jan 1, someone else cooks collards and I always choke down one bite. It's a southern tradition!

  9. I wish we still had a Red Lobster around here but the one that was close shut down years ago and I have no idea where the closest one even is now. Rats.

I think if one were to serve collard greens and black-eyed peas on New Year's up here, people would think one had lost their mind! Heck, I don't think one can even buy collard greens up here!

Best wishes for a 2013 that brings you continued health and happiness. I know this last one has been tough but you made it through and hopefully this next one will be better. Big hugs to you.

  11. You might think that I'm crazy Bee but what the heck are black eyed peas or collard greens? I've never heard about them. Maybe they are in different wordings and I probably ate them before but not in those words.
Tonight we are going to visit my mother and then we stay until midnight. After our New Years kiss, we go to sleep. When I was young I would stay awake for a long time but not now.
Have a very Happy New Years my wonderful, caring and thoughtful friend. See you soon.

  15. We are on the boat and off the roads. That's where we will stay until Wednesday. Then we'll head home. We had a lovely night last night and we'll have a lovely night tonight. We'll ring in the new year sleeping as we always do. We sure feel good the next morning.

I'm not much for black eyed peas, but pass the greens. I can eat a mess of those. Hubby and I love them. He likes the black eyed peas too.

Have a terrific day honey. May the new year bring you health, happiness and prosperity. I think you have most of that now. Big hugs honey. :)

  16. I had to google black eyed peas and collard greens to find out what they were. Don't think we have them up here in Canada, but we do have Red Lobster and that plate looks mighty good. I must order that the next time we go.

We're expecting to go to Florida for the month of February but I guess I never realized before that the residents do not really like the Canadians coming down. We will try to be quiet and not upset the people living in the condos beside us. It is so nice for us to escape a few weeks of cold, snow and icy roads.

Wishing you a healthy and happy 2013.
    Hugs

  17. This Canadian is already enjoying Florida. Come on over here, Bee, the weather and the water are perfect for swimming.
I saw black eyed peas this week in Publix - they have a special menu for black-eyed pea cakes - not the sort of cake I want!!
I remember being at a restaurant that had a salad bar and they also had collard greens and one family just kept eating them and eating them.
Every time they would fill up the container, back they would go. I think it was the butter they liked!!
Happy New Year. I'll try to stay awake until midnight.
