The appointment with the orthopedic doctor did not go as planned. He said my hips (as in both of them) must be replaced. The first one is in two weeks. The second approximately three months later. The shot I thought I was going to get would only delay the inevitable so I'm going to listen to him. He's widely known as an excellent surgeon. Plus I know Dr. Wacks would never steer me wrong.

So it's not as bad as I thought. The surgery is about an hour and fine with a spinal and home that day or the next. I can go to a rehab if I want and insurance would pay for it so I'll decide that soon.

Maybe one day soon I'll blog with some good news!

It'll all be fine soon and I'll be back to Missbeehavin' again..,

  1. A spinal is the only way to go because you will still be without pain when you wake up. Plus, they have really nice drugs to keep you comfortable. If you don't have a live-in helper, rehab is the best route because you get waited on, can have your meals brought to you instead of going to the dining room, AND they will start a bit of physical therapy and teach you how to use the "tools" you will need before you go home. You cannot bend over for 6 weeks, so you are going to need a grabby stick, a sock puller, a walker and a cane. It will take you quite a while to heal up, but physical therapy will help and you are going to be better then new when it is all over. I waited a year between mine, but now I can walk everywhere, garden and do everything I need to do with absolutely no pain!!!

  3. Well, whatever ^Judy^ said up there. She sounds like she knows her stuff since she's already done it twice. And well, just buggers. But the thought of good as new once you get to the other side of the rehab sounds wonderful. My sister's father in law finally decided to get his really bad knee replaced as opposed to his not as bad as the really bad one... and very soon he was out on the golf course again and begging his doctor to do the other knee ASAP.

I'm hoping my knee x-rays will confirm Osteo Arthritus and that I can get a cortizone shot for the pain. Because I'd really really like them to quit hurting so I can stop limping. The End.

  5. I have a couple of friends who have had hip replacements the "new" way where the incision is in the front of the hip, rather than the side. Both were home the same day and are doing great. I hope you will be walking pain free soon!

  11. Wishing you well on your hip replacement, Bee. You are an exerciser so you should do VERY well. I had both knees replaced and it is like a miracle to have no pain and feel so stable.
