Yesterday I was in the card room and it was my turn to sit out so I snapped some photos.  (wink)  I lost three dollars and twenty cents too.  But then I had poker and won fifty bucks so I'm even, right?

Today is one of the MahJong gals birthdays so we are having cake!  CAKE!  Yee haw!  Cake.

Yesterday I was watching Dr. Oz after canasta and the show was about addiction.  It was a really good show.  It talked about how the brain works with substances, including alcohol which is most definitely a drug, just a legal one.  Now I am not here to tell you not to have a drink, I do myself occasionally, but it explained what happens in your brain and how you become dependent on these substances.  And why addiction is a disease like any other disease and we should treat it as such.  Anyway I enjoyed the show and hope more people understand addiction a bit better.

I remember when the duck was at his lowest point and I told him that I loved him no matter what.  I just was no longer going to try to "fix" him.  Or clean up after him, he would be responsible for anything he did.  Co-dependency is as much a disease as addiction.

Think about this too, when you give money to one of those people begging on the corner you may be the one that gives them the money that buys the drug that kills them.  Don't be responsible for them.

Okay I'll step down from the soapbox now, sorry for the rant.  It's just a subject that triggers me in a huge way.

Have a wonderful Wednesday.  I will too.  Remember I'll have some cake!

  2. The twins! The actually wear the same hair style? How funny.

Any substance abuse or addictive behavior is dreadful and potentially devastating. I attended my first Al-Anon meeting when I was 16. My aunt and I went for 3 years. She ended up divorcing her husband. Twice. Bless her heart. It finally stuck. Finding the self-discipline to NOT be an enabler is incredibly difficult when you love someone. I watched my parents go through so much with 3 of my brothers. And now one of my sisters is going through it with her oldest son. Even with all she saw my parents go through, she still hasn't been able to NOT be an enabler.

Cake! I may have to make some cupcakes today.

Have a lovely day! big hugs xoxo

  5. You are so right about not being able to "fix" someone else. That's hard, too!
Enjoy your day today and enjoy that cake! We have over an inch of snow on the ground and more falling. I'm not going anywhere until the temp gets above freezing! It's 28 now. Enjoy being warm!

  6. You're right it is very hard not to enable, but it is for their own survival to give tough love.
    Oh the TWINS!

  7. So those are the twins. I already don't care for them. I'm just saying. I would avoid them all all costs.

I don't give money to the folks on the street. I worked in law enforcement for 25 years. I could tell many stores about addiction and what happens to the folks that are addicted. But I won't.

Have a terrific day honey. Big hugs from rainy California. ☺

  8. Fortunately, cake is not addicting.

Sounds like you had just the right kind of breaking even yesterday -- much better than on other occasions.

  9. I wish our family had had this info years ago. My father was an alcoholic and a Jekyll/Hyde. It truly is a wicked disease. I don't enable those street ppl with $$. Ever. And would also avoid the twins!

    Big hugs, honey...

  10. Bee, Too funny, the twins look as I had imagined them. I agree with you Bee on additions. On that show intervention, they say parents, siblings and anyone else ...need to stand strong and say no to the addict...No money, no place to stay. Or you could just be killing the person you love. I have never given "beggers" money. You never know the full story. Have a good day, enjoy yourself. xoxo,Susie

  13. I took a psychology of addictions class in college and it was absolutely fascinating. It's strange how people's brains are wired and how some people react to substances so differently than other people...or how sometimes you can be addicted to things other than physical substances (sex, shopping, gambling, etc.)
