Saturday in paradise...

Happy Ground Hog Day y'all.  Is that proper to say "happy" in front of it?  I have no clue but happy day anyway.  The little bugger sees his shadow in our neck of the woods.  That means six more weeks of something, don't remember just what.  But I'll enjoy six more weeks of it anyway.

So yesterday I went to publix and got some fruit and veggies, I didn't get to the fruit stand.  It was so windy you can't believe.  And I just had all my windows washed on Wednesday.  The wind blows salty air around near the coast if you are not familiar with that and they get all slimy and stuff.  Yucky.  Anyway they don't look like they were just washed any more.

I'm adjusting nicely to living in the condo with the new stuff.  I like the choices I made.  Would I do anything differently?  Maybe the fabric on the sofas, more pink and less "yellowy-green".  But I still like them and I'll be happy.  The two rugs are still not here yet.

I was thinking about something.  I know I do that too much, right?  Anyway I was thinking about how calories work.  And if eating at a certain time of day matters.  I heard that you shouldn't eat after 7:00 and stuff like that but it doesn't make any sense to me.  Calories are fuel.  Like gasoline in your car is fuel.  It doesn't matter what time you fill your tank with gasoline does it?  It's the same full whatever time.  I think it's the same with calories.

I also think you should drink water before bed though.  And eat something.  Just a small snack to hold you till morning.  If I don't I wake up hungry.  Then I can't go back to sleep until I drink water or eat something.  Or both.  So I try to have something at bedtime like a banana or cottage cheese or cereal.  Not more than 150 calories.

I was asked to give some ideas about bee bandwagon snacks.  Here are some of my favorites:  fruit, cereal, cottage cheese, 100 calorie snack bag (not my favorite), dried apple snack, yogurt, pretzels, popcorn.  Here is something I like.  Pop a bag of microwave popcorn and put it in a container with a good lid.  Add some pretzels, a few nuts, a few raisins, some cheerios, even some m&m's.  Then have a cup of this when you want a sweet/salty snack.  But don't pick out all the m&m's at one time! lol  And if you make a bunch of baggies of this stuff (which I do) it's better if you keep it in the freezer or it will get soggy and not crisp.

So that's it from paradise for today my friends.  Have a great Saturday.  I will too.

  1. I bought some trail mix... and it was too good and I ate too much and gained weight. For the most part my snacks are fresh fruits, or carrots and celery, or pickles! I love pickles! I have 23 or 4 kinds in the fridge. They are my "instead of chips or fries" replacement and work better than I ever would've thought! Satisfies my need for crunchy or salty with a sammich.

    You're welcome. :)

Have a perfect day today! I'm headed out to my publix for produce this morning. And now I want m&ms. bugger.

    big hugs xoxo

  2. Some great tips for snacks there Bee. I get what you're saying about calories but I find if I eat after 6pm I don't lose weight, so I don't do it.

  3. The water and snack before bed is a great idea. I know on the snack they do encourage pregnant women to do that to hold them over . Water well. I used to get up at least once in the middle of the night to used the bathroom. I am waiting for a day when I will sleep threw the night. And I think it will not happen for at least 10 years now.. On a snack. Not sure on calories, but slice a cucumber, put in Tupperware type container with lid. Depending on how much in there add a t to a T of italian dressing. Shake and snack like they are chips. I prefer to let mine sit int he fridge for a few hours before eating and shake up a few more times. I find the crunch of the cucumber plus the added dressing just give a coating of flavor and salt so it can trick you. Like a chip fix for me.

  5. I agree with you on the gasoline (fuel) part. If you eat the right amount of calories per day you'll lose weight no matter when you eat those calories. I don't have a snack before bed and don't wake up hungry. I'm not a morning eater, I'm a afternoon eater. Hubby is a night eater and he's got to be careful because he'll eat way more than 150 calories. I can't get up and have breakfast. No way. Now around 10 or so I'm ready.

Have a terrific day. Big hugs. ☺

  6. Happy Saturday, dear Bee.

I read that metabolism slows down as usually people are generally less active towards the evenings, and that's why they recommend not eating anything after 7:00 p.m.

Drinking a big glass of water would certainly help you feel full.
But if you wake up hungry in the middle of the night anyway, maybe a snack before bed could be something with lean protein.

NuTek Pro5 has these awesome protein shakes in vanilla, strawberry, cookies-and-cream, chocolate, etc. flavors and you make them in a shaker cup (usually the stores give you a shaker cup with a lid when you buy the protein) with 12 oz. water.
Just 145 calories and 32 grams of protein, 2 carbs, 1 gram of sugar.

    ((HUGS))

  7. I think the thought is that if you eat later in the night then go to bed that the calories wont get burned off because you're sleeping instead of being active - but your logic makes sense too!

    Have a great day :)

  9. Happy groundhog day -- LOL! Would you be happy if a drunk guy in a dorky outfit drags you out of your peaceful existence and then get your picture taken by a kajillion reporters? Happy for us, not the groundhog. LOL! Poor groundhog.

Have a great Saturday. We're heading out for a day of running around. Lots of places we need to hit.

  10. I need to go back and read the e-mail a friend sent me but it said for good heart health you need to drink water before bed and a glass when you wake up... now I must find that e-mail.

    cheers, parsnip

  11. Thanks for the snack ideas. I just read an article about how the time of day you eat affects weight loss. It has to do with your body's circadian rhythm. Your body is better able to process glucose (the sugar that comes from carbohydrates) in the morning. Later in the evening you have higher levels of insulin resistance, which makes it harder to extract sugar from your blood to burn as energy.

  13. That popcorn snack sounds like a really great idea. I'll have to get some ingredients and try it so I have something to bring to work.

  14. Here is what I understand about when to eat:
Calories are fuel, that part is right. The real question is do you want to take them in when its time to burn them, or put them in your tank (aka your butt) eat carbs early with a little protein. High protein later in the day with no carbs and you will do fine.
